Christmas Holidays
We close on Wednesday the 21st of December 2011 at 5.30pm. We reopen on Monday the 9th of January 2012 at 8am.
Please note that if you are away for more than 3 weeks (excluding when we are closed) your WINZ and ECE subsidy will be automatically stopped and your child’s space will be lost.
Christmas is coming…
Children’s Christmas party Friday the 9th of December 2011 at Rural Scholars from 5.00-7.00. Santa will be visiting at 5.45.pm. Please provide a $5 dollars gift for your child with their name clearly printed on the outside of their wrapped gift. These gifts can be dropped off to Rural Scholars before this date.
The children are also learning some simple action songs so that they can put on a concert for parents, family and friends at our Christmas party. This concert will take place at 5.30
We will again be having a hangi at our Christmas party. We would appreciate and will need donations of food and time. Please see a teacher and put your name down on the list to help. This was a great experience last year with lots of parents and children coming together to prepare our hangi. Please let us know if you are coming as soon as possible so we can arrange catering– bring the family and come celebrate Christmas with us.
Technology – The science of circuits!

What makes a circuit? The children have loved experimenting with the Brain box kit. As a result we have been learning about what makes a circuit work. We have learnt that circuits are all about connections, and that everything needs to be connected in order to work. We have been making lights work, and motors run. We have learnt that a circuit needs a power source, wires, a switch and something to operate, like the light or motor. more »
Thank You!
We would like to say a huge Thank-you to Max Crane for making us our wonderful wooden plane. The plane is fantastic, it can fit up to 10 children in it and it has all the bells and whistles, such as a moving propeller and two steering wheels. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the plane and have been on many different adventures, Abby went to Rarotonga, Max went to Australia and Lucy went to McDonalds!
We would also like to say a big Thank-you to Kristy Thomas for coming and playing the saxophone to the children, the children were amazed at the sound that came out of this instrument. Kristy played some songs to the children; this included ‘Mary had a little lamb’. The children were lucky enough to get to touch the instrument and some of them got to hold it. Hopefully Kristy will be back!
The children at Rural Scholars are so lucky with such a great community the children are experiencing a variety of different experiences in their learning journey.
At Rural Scholars ukuleles are such a hit at the moment, we were lucky enough to have the ‘experienced’ Janine Donaldson take a night workshop for parents and teachers. The night work shop was such a hit so we are planning to have one once a month at Rural Scholars. (This will be advertised on the classroom window)
We would also like to say a big Thank-You to Jack Fox and Carman and Mark Hurst for giving Rural Scholars the lambs this year. The children have been great with the lambs; they have been learning care and routine. The children were fantastic at helping to make up the bottles and taking turns to feed the lambs their bottles.
